Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

The Umana has an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Program in grades K0/K1-4, and will roll up each year. Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the evidence-based science used as a foundation for teaching and learning in our ABA-based classrooms. ABA has been proven to encourage positive behavior change and increased independence for a wide variety of students. In our ABA-based classroom each student accesses grade-level curriculum that is modified with accommodations, strategies implemented across the day to teach skill acquisition, maintain mastered skills and generalized across people and settings.

Educational & Social Development (ESD)

The Umana has a program for students with Educational & Social Development needs K-8. The program develops students’ academic, social and life skills in 3 highly-structured, routine based classrooms. Students engage in standards and unit-based instruction and culturally responsive learning that aligns to their IEP goals and the MCAS ALT assessment. Students in the ESD strand are supported by speech therapists, occupational and physical therapists, an adapted physical education (APE) teacher and other service providers in both one-to-one and small group sessions. Students are held to high expectations and encouraged to push the limits of their abilities to become independent and valued community members.
